Alameda Wholesale Nursery turns 80 years old!

Alameda Now vs Then!
  • The 40’s!

Alameda Nursery started in 1945 as a Garden Center at 2645 W. Alameda, which at the time was a 2-lane gravel road with no sidewalks. It was at the south end of Denver with open ground and dry wheat fields all the way south to the towns of Sheridan and Englewood.

  • Hand dug trees in the 50’s

In the late 1950’s we bought 8 acres at 3160 So. Zuni in Englewood as a growing field to grow B&B trees for the garden center and our landscape sales. These trees were hand dug as tree spades were not invented yet!

  • The South Platte flood in the 60’s

In the early 1960’s we sold the Alameda property and moved the Garden Center to our property in Englewood. In 1965 the South Platte had a huge flood which destroyed 2/3 of the bridges in the city and was the final straw for our Garden Center and we decided to supply plants to the growing number of professional landscape contractors. That was one of the best decisions we ever made!

  • 2025 and beyond

We now have 31 acres conveniently located in Englewood. Another decision that has worked really well for us is to have a manager for each of our business segments, i.e. B&B Trees, smaller evergreens, perennials, shrubs, bulbs, and hardgoods. These managers can understand the needs of our customers better, what’s new in the marketplace and what growers can provide the best value and plants for our customers.

Our commitment to the green industry, its associations, vendors and our customers have kept “Our Business is Growing”

As with any business, employee retention is a barometer of the integrity and success of the company. Our top seven management team and employees have worked here an average of 32 years each!
